Washington, D.C. – As the economic disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic continues, the United States Footwear Manufacturers Association (USFMA) board encourages the Administration to extend the duty deferral.
As the country starts to reopen, American manufacturers are getting back to work. After months of no or reduced activity, restart costs are high and revenues are lagging. An extension of the duty deferral would provide much-needed cash flow and liquidity to American businesses until business is back to normal.
American manufacturing is rapidly responding to the COVID-19 crisis, including by some of our members as they retool facilities to aid with shortages in personal protective equipment (PPE) and other lifesaving equipment. Extending the duty deferral provides cash flow that allows businesses to continue supporting employees and gets American manufacturers back on the line.
